Born Clifford Harris. T.I. is identified with the Southern gangsta rap style of his home town Atlanta, Georgia. He was called Tip by his grandfather as a child, which became T.I.P. to prevent his southern accent being understood as Chip, and later a shorter version T.I. With a stage name ready, T.I. was determined to pursue a rap career when only 11 years old.
