When Roy Orbison left Monument Records for Columbia, his fortunes began to take a turn for the worse. This was due in part to the fact that a large record company cannot replicate the intimacy and feeling that a small, independent label can, but that is not all there was. Roy Orbison had lost his steam, and in the end his songs began to sound like replicas of themselves.
