About Mos Def
Born Dante Terrell Smith, Mos Def is a black Muslim rapper who has led, along with several other rappers, among them Talib Kweli, a movement that calls back for more responsible rap, a move away from the gangsta rap culture that evolved over the 90s. In some ways, Mos Def calls for an old school hip hop style, but in other ways he is more of the here and now than the hedonistic gangsta rappers.
