R&B great Al Green suffered second degree burns when his then girlfriend poured boiling grits on him when in the shower, after he refused her marriage proposal, before killing herself in the next room. The year was 1974. It proved to be a critical year in Al Green's life and career, as he converted to Christianity and turned to gospel music, which would earn him several Grammys in the 80s.
